When can I start teaching my child to ‘baby sign’?

Most parents naturally encourage their baby at 6–7 months old to wave bye-bye, and babies are often getting quite good at it by 8–9 months of age. It is exactly the same with baby sign-language — but using really useful communicative words like ‘eat’, ‘milk’, ‘more’, ‘tired’, ‘finished’, ‘brush teeth’, ‘cat’, ‘swing’, and a lot more. Baby-sign language can become an invaluable two-way communication tool for the next two years, until your toddler is able to talk with some clarity, at about two-and-a-half years of age.
