These are written instructions for your LMC indicating your previous decisions regarding pain management strategies, for instance, or other opinions or preferences about labour and delivery. It also should include who you nominate to make decisions on your behalf, should you be unable to. Bear in mind though that plans do change, depending on the circumstance, especially for a first birth. As a back-up, do keep a copy of your birth plan in your delivery bag should someone else needs to step-in as your LMC.
