What are some methods of medically-induced labor?

Three methods are discussed in the book: the use of prostaglandins vaginal gel which aims to ripen the cervix, so the waters can be ruptured; amniotomy (artificial rupture of the membranes) which makes use of an AmniHook to gently catch the membranes and nick a small hole and Syntocinon IV or synthetic oxytocin drip which is given into the bloodstream to stimulate uterine contractions or make existing contractions stronger, longer and more frequent.
