Is it normal to see my bub not feeding continuously?

Babies, especially newborns, don’t feed continuously. They feed in bursts and only gulp every few sucks. Along the lines of suck-suck-suck-suckswallow-suck-suck-pause-suck-suck-swallow-pause-pause-suck-sucksuck-swallow-suck-suck-pause-suck . . . see the pattern? There is none, it’s random. So, when they pause, don’t think you need to re-latch — bub is just having a little rest. It’s an exhausting aerobic work-out for a baby. As babies get older, they often like to pause mid-feed to enjoy a smile!
