Is it normal to see my bub not feeding continuously?
Nov 14, 2024Babies, especially newborns, don’t feed continuously. They feed in bursts and only gulp every few sucks. Along the lines of suck-suck-suck-suckswallow-suck-suck-pause-suck-suck-swallow-pause-pause-suck-sucksuck-swallow-suck-suck-pause-suck . . . see the pattern? There is none, it’s random. So, when they pause, don’t think you need to re-latch — bub is just having a little rest. It’s an exhausting aerobic work-out for a baby. As babies get older, they often like to pause mid-feed to enjoy a smile!
