How do you know whether your newborn is getting enough breastmilk?

baby pee breast-feeds breastmilk meconium poo weight gain Nov 13, 2024

If your baby is having at least 8 breast-feeds every 24 hours, is obviously swallowing during the feeds and seems happily satisfied after the feeds, then these are strong indicators that everything is fine. Other signs that a newborn is adequately fed are that he’s initially doing at least four poos a day; that by about the fifth day there’s no more meconium poo; that he’s doing at least 8 pees a day; that he is back to his birth weight within, say, 10 days; and from then on gaining around 200–300 g per week.
