How do you encourage your partners to do their ‘daddy duties’?

First rule: Don’t criticise your baby’s dad when he’s trying to parent. But when he manages to get it right, then tell him so because he too responds to praise. Try not to be an over-possessive new mum by criticising and re-doing your partner’s less-than-perfect efforts — he’s had less practice. Don’t teach your husband how to be helpless. Find the roles that work for you, and leave each other in their sole-charge positions. Remember, at the end of the day, most men want to be securely happy in a solid relationship with a loving wife and adoring children.
