How can I correct split recti muscles?
Nov 19, 2024The following gentle exercise is designed to correct this over a couple of weeks: Lie down on the floor on your back with your knees bent. Cross your arms over your tummy. Breathe in, and then slowly breathe out raising your head slightly off the floor. At the same time use your hands to pull the two recti abdominal muscles towards each other. This encourages the recti back together. During the time your recti are split, gym exercise may need to be professionally modified (and definitely no sit-ups). If the condition persists past a couple of months postpartum, or if the gap widens, then see your GP. Occasionally surgery may be necessary to knit the muscles.
